Online Career Chat event resources

Inspiring the Future Online Career Chat events involve participants meeting role models online and trying to guess their jobs, followed by a presentation and Q&A with each.

These short events are quick to organise and you have access to all role models across New Zealand. They’re ideal for small or rural schools, and work well with smaller groups of students. You can easily run them within a single class period, making them a practical option for subject teachers to integrate into existing lessons.

  • Recommended age group: Any
  • Length of event: Usually 30 minutes to 1.5 hours
  • Recommended number of participants: Up to 30
  • Theme suggestions:
    • Broadening horizons and challenging stereotypes
    • Local jobs
    • Topics like the environment, related to a big sports event
    • Supporting transition to secondary school or subject selection
    • Subject-specific, eg, science careers
    • Sector-specific, eg, IT careers
    • Pathway themed, eg, apprenticeship pathways.
