Career Discussion Group event resources

Inspiring the Future Career Discussion Group events involve groups of participants rotating around role models, spending 10–15 minutes with each, hearing about their careers and asking questions.

These events work well for older secondary students as they allow students to find out deep information about careers, sectors and pathways. The smaller group setting encourages all students to engage in conversation and ask questions they might be shy to ask in a large group.

  • Recommended age group: Year 11+ (age 15+)
  • Length of event: Usually 45 minutes to 1.5 hours
  • Recommended number of participants: 15–80
  • Theme suggestions:
    • Broadening horizons and challenging stereotypes
    • Subject-specific, eg, science careers
    • Sector-specific, eg, IT careers
    • Pathway themed, eg, apprenticeship pathways.

Below is everything you need to run a Career Discussion Group event. Read the step-by-step guide to find out how and when to use each resource.
